Preferred supplier
Roles in construction projects: analysis and terminology, by Hughes, W. and Murdoch, J. R, published in 2001 by the University of Reading, defines a supplier as: ‘A person or organization that supplies goods to the client.’
It defines a preferred supplier as: ‘A person or organization that supplies goods and services to the client, in connection with a building project, particularly one with which the client is developing medium to long-term business relationships.’
A preferred supplier list is a list of organisations preferred by a client to undertake certain works, supplies or services, following a competitive tendering exercise. For more information see: Preferred supplier list.
